Decoy making was a vocation for many of the old-time carvers, but they also applied their skills to other kinds of carvings for fun and personal satisfaction. Will has always kept dogs and claims he is not a cat lover. Will's children say that cats are attracted to him, and he is occasionally caught absently stroking a purring pet while engrossed in a good book. Perhaps, these carvings indicate a repressed appreciation for the cat spirit.
