
Many old-time decoy carvers turned their talents to the demands of summer tourists as the needs of hunters waned and wile game became scarce. The carefully developed skills of decoy making are easily adapted to the production of songbirds. Bird carving in America today come directly from the decoy tradition. In this spirit, Will, too, has turned his attention to carving non-game species in the belief that honestly conceived, contemporary folk art, created with the tools and techniques of the old master, can make a valid contribution to a continuing tradition.
