I have been making some weathervanes. The gold one is available on order with about 6 weeks to wait. The Buffleheads are available now. As of now, I am not selling the bottom parts of the vanes. The parts that holds the compass points. I am just making the tops. One, Three Flying Shorebirds is completely gold leafed and is 54 inches long. The second, "Flying Buffleheads" is also 54 inches long and is painted realistically and the copper vane is treated to a weathered patina.

Both are made to be mounted on a 1/2 inch diameter shaft. The vertical tubes have 1/2 inch bronze bearings inserted inside them and the top of the tubes have a special cup for a steel ball bearing. The arrowheads are cast lead and the vanes are designed to balance at the turning post. The carved birds are primed with eight coats of high quality artists grade acrylic paint then gold leafed or painted again in the appropriate plumage. The vertical uprights upon which the birds are mounted are copper with steel inserts for strength.

The customer may have almost any species of bird, fish or animal mounted on the arrow. It might be a flock of robins, a group of shorebirds or crows, a school of fish, or perhaps a trophy salmon or striper. These vanes are designed to be used in the elements over the seasons for many generations. But they may be used as interior decorations as well. Either way, they are made to the same specifications.
